Travelers using the Delhi-Ambala railway section need to plan their journeys carefully this month. The Northern Railway has announced a significant rail block at the Shahabad Markanda and Mohri stations. This block is expected to last for one week, specifically from May 31 to June 6. The reason for this disruption is the upgrading of railway infrastructure, including the extension of loop lines and the installation of a new electronic interlocking panel. While these changes will help the trains run better in the long term, they will cause several problems for passengers in the coming days.
According to the official reports from the Railway Board, many trains will be affected by this work. Specifically, twenty-two trains have been cancelled during this seven-day period. Some of the important trains that will not run include the Delhi to Daulatpur Chowk Express and several MEMU trains that connect Ambala with Kurukshetra, Panipat, and other nearby areas. This will likely cause a lot of trouble for daily commuters who rely on these local trains to get to work or school. On the final day of the work, which is June 6, even high-speed trains like the New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi Express will be cancelled.

Apart from cancellations, many other trains will be diverted to different routes. This means that if you are traveling on long-distance trains like the Howrah-Kalka Netaji Express or the Paschim Express, your train might take a longer path to reach its destination. In total, twenty-nine trains are being diverted. This could lead to longer travel times, so it is a good idea to check the latest schedule before you head to the station. Additionally, some trains will be “short-terminated,” which means they will end their journey earlier than their usual destination.
For those planning to travel on premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express, there is more news. Eight major trains, including the Vande Bharat services between New Delhi and Katra or Amritsar, will be rescheduled. Rescheduling means the trains will start their journey at a different time than usual. This is done to manage the heavy traffic on the limited tracks available during the construction work. Furthermore, twenty other trains will be “regulated,” which essentially means they may be stopped at certain stations for some time to allow other trains to pass.
The railway authorities have explained that this work is necessary for safety and efficiency. The “non-interlocking” work, which is the most critical part, will happen on June 6. This is why the biggest disruptions are expected on that day. While the railway department understands that this causes a lot of inconvenience to the public, they believe that the new electronic system will make train travel much safer once it is completed.
If you have a ticket booked during the first week of June on the Delhi-Ambala route, you should verify your train status immediately. You can use the official railway websites or mobile apps to see if your train is cancelled, diverted, or rescheduled. It is always better to know these details in advance so you can find other ways to travel, such as taking a bus or a private car. The Indian Railways is working hard to finish the project on time so that normal services can resume as quickly as possible. Taking these steps now will help you avoid being stranded at the railway station during the hot summer days.
Northern Railway has announced major train disruptions on the Delhi–Ambala route from May 31 to June 6 due to infrastructure upgrades at Shahabad Markanda and Mohri stations. The work includes loop line extensions and installation of a new electronic interlocking system. During this period, 22 trains will be cancelled, 29 diverted, and several others rescheduled or regulated, affecting key services including MEMU trains and premium routes.
