Indian Railways Blocks 60 Billion Bot Requests to Protect E-Ticketing System and Passengers

Indian Railways has achieved a massive victory in the fight against online fraud and ticket scalping. Between July and December 2025, the railway’s digital security systems successfully blocked more than sixty billion bot requests. These bots are automated computer programs designed to log into the e-ticketing system faster than any human can. Their goal is usually to corner tickets, especially during busy holiday seasons, making it very difficult for regular people to find a seat. By stopping these billions of fake attempts, the railway has ensured that genuine passengers have a much better chance of booking their travel fairly.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared these impressive figures during a session in the Parliament. He explained that out of nearly ninety-eight billion total requests made to the e-ticketing website in just six months, only about thirty-seven billion were from real people. This means that a huge portion of the traffic on the website was actually caused by machines trying to cheat the system. The highest number of bot attacks happened in October 2025, which is a major festival month in India. During that month alone, seventeen billion bot requests were identified and denied access.

To keep the booking process safe, the Indian Railways has put many layers of protection in place. They use advanced computer firewalls and special systems that can detect when a user is a machine instead of a person. In addition to these technical tools, the railway has taken strong action against suspicious accounts. Over the past year, they deactivated more than three crore user IDs that looked fake or were being used for illegal ticket sales. They also blocked over twelve thousand email domains that were linked to suspicious activities.

One of the most important new rules to help the common man is the requirement of Aadhaar authentication for booking Tatkal tickets. Because Tatkal tickets are in high demand and sell out in minutes, dishonest agents often try to use bots to grab them all. By asking for Aadhaar verification, the railway makes sure that each account belongs to a real person. This small step has made a big difference in stopping people from creating thousands of fake accounts to steal tickets from honest travelers.

The railway authorities are also working closely with cybercrime experts. In 2025, they filed hundreds of complaints on the National Cyber Portal to track down people who were trying to hack or bypass the ticketing rules. They found nearly four lakh suspicious bookings and took quick action to cancel them. This constant monitoring helps keep the system smooth so that when a family sits down to book a holiday trip, the website does not crash due to too many fake bot requests.

The success of these security measures shows that Indian Railways is committed to using the latest technology to protect its passengers. While the fight against online bots is ongoing, the blocking of sixty billion attempts is a clear sign that the system is getting stronger. Passengers can now feel more confident that the tickets available on the website are being sold fairly. As the railway continues to upgrade its digital tools, the focus remains on making sure that every “common man” can book a train journey without being cheated by a computer program.

The Union Cabinet has approved rail and highway projects worth ₹48,000 crore to improve connectivity, reduce delays, and boost economic growth. Plans include new railway lines, track expansion, highway construction, and expressway upgrades. The projects aim to enhance freight movement, create jobs, promote electrification, and ensure safer, faster travel across India while supporting environmentally friendly infrastructure development.
