Indian Railways Changes Tatkal Booking Rules: Confirmed Tickets Now Easier for Passengers

Indian Railways has announced new Tatkal booking rules to make it easier for passengers to get confirmed train tickets. This big change aims to help many people who travel by train in India. For a long time, booking Tatkal tickets was very hard for common travelers because tickets were gone in just seconds after the booking opened. But now, Indian Railways new rules are expected to make confirmed Tatkal tickets easier to get.

What Are Tatkal Tickets?

Tatkal is a special train ticket system by Indian Railways and IRCTC where passengers can book tickets at the last moment before travel. These tickets are popular but have limited seats. Many times, Tatkal tickets are booked within a few seconds by agents and software bots. This makes it hard for regular passengers to get a confirmed seat.

New Booking Rules to Help Genuine Passengers

Under the new Tatkal booking rules, Indian Railways has made it necessary for passengers to link their Aadhaar cards to their IRCTC accounts. Only fully verified users will be able to book Tatkal tickets online. This step will stop fake users or bots from booking many Tatkal tickets at the same time.

From July 1, 2025, only passengers with Aadhaar verification on IRCTC website or app can make Tatkal bookings. From July 15, 2025, the system will also require OTP-based Aadhaar authentication during booking. This means passengers must enter a one-time password (OTP) sent to their mobile phone for every Tatkal reservation.

Restrictions on Agent Bookings

Indian Railways has also placed a limit on how agents can book Tatkal tickets. Agents will not be able to book tickets in the first 30 minutes after the Tatkal booking opens. This applies from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM for AC classes and from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM for non-AC classes. This change is meant to give real passengers a fair chance to get confirmed tickets.

Better Ticket Booking Experience

Railway officials believe these Tatkal ticket changes will reduce fake bookings and help many passengers get confirmed seats without too much stress. Passengers are advised to update their IRCTC profile with correct Aadhaar details and keep their mobile phones ready for OTP verification.

In the future, more improvements in Indian Railways ticket booking may be introduced to make train travel faster, fairer, and more passenger-friendly.

Indian Railways has introduced new Tatkal booking rules to improve fairness and help genuine passengers secure confirmed tickets. Aadhaar linking and OTP-based verification will now be mandatory for online Tatkal bookings, while agents will be restricted from booking tickets during the first 30 minutes of opening. The changes aim to curb bots and bulk bookings, ensuring a smoother and more transparent reservation process.
