The state of Mizoram is getting ready for a very big change in its transport system. Recently, the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, shared some very happy news during the state assembly meeting. He announced that the central government has approved a large amount of money to improve the Sairang railway station. The government has sanctioned 97 crore rupees to turn this station into a world-class facility. This news is very important for the people of Mizoram because it will make traveling much easier and faster for everyone in the region.
The Chief Minister explained that the Ministry of Railways agreed to the state’s request to upgrade the station. This project is not just about making the station look better but also about making it much bigger. The plan includes expanding the existing station building both upwards and sideways. There will be new infrastructure for the terminal to help manage the increasing number of passengers who use the train every day. Along with these buildings, the government will also work on beautification to make the station look modern and welcoming for travelers coming from different parts of India.

One of the most exciting parts of this news is that the work is going to start very soon. The Chief Minister mentioned that the tenders for the construction have already been released. This means the government is looking for builders to start the project immediately. Once the work begins, the Sairang railway station will slowly transform into a high-tech hub. This is a big step for Mizoram because the state is located in a hilly area where building railways is very difficult. Having a world-class station will help the local people connect better with the rest of the country.
Besides helping passengers, the government has another big plan for Sairang. They want to make it a key place for business and trade. The Chief Minister said that they are looking for land to build a very large warehouse near the station. This warehouse will be used to store goods and help local business owners move their products more easily. Earlier, there were some problems regarding the availability of land, but now a joint inspection is scheduled to find the right spot. If the land is secured, this warehouse will help Mizoram become a major center for logistics and trade in the northeast.
This upgrade is part of a larger success for the state. Only a few months ago, the Prime Minister inaugurated the railway line between Bairabi and Sairang. That project was very expensive and hard to build because of the mountains, but it finally brought the capital city of Aizawl onto the railway map of India. Now, with an additional 97 crore rupees being spent on the station itself, the railway service will become even better. This will bring more tourists to the beautiful state of Mizoram and also provide more jobs for the local people. It is a very positive sign for the future development of the region.
Mizoram’s Sairang Railway Station is set for a ₹97 crore upgrade after central approval. The project will expand station infrastructure, modernize facilities, and enhance passenger handling capacity. Plans also include developing a nearby warehouse to boost trade and logistics. Following the recent Bairabi–Sairang rail link inauguration, this upgrade marks a major step in strengthening rail connectivity in the Northeast.
