The Indian government has announced a massive plan to improve the railway system in Gujarat. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that a record-breaking budget of Rs 17,366 crore has been set aside for the year 2026-27. This is a very large amount of money meant to make train travel faster, safer, and more comfortable for everyone in the state. The Minister explained that this budget is much higher than what was given in the past. He said that between 2009 and 2014, the state received only about Rs 589 crore each year. Now, the funding has increased many times over to help modernize the entire rail network.
This big investment is part of a larger plan for Gujarat. Right now, there are many railway projects happening in the state that are worth a total of Rs 1.28 lakh crore. One of the most exciting parts of this plan is the “Amrit Station Scheme.” Under this program, 87 railway stations in Gujarat have been chosen to become world-class. This means they will have modern facilities like better waiting areas, cleaner platforms, and easy access for all passengers. So far, the work on 21 of these stations is already finished. Major stations like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Somnath are currently being renovated at a very fast pace. Once the Ahmedabad station is finished, it will offer international-level services to the people.

Another very important project mentioned by the Minister is the Bullet Train. This will be the first high-speed train in India, connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The government is working hard to make the Bullet Train start running by next year. When it is ready, the train will travel at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour. This means the long journey between the two cities will take only 1 hour and 57 minutes. People from Japan have even visited to check the progress, and they are very happy with how the work is going. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also approved seven more routes for the Bullet Train to connect even more cities in the future.
In addition to new trains and stations, the state has achieved a major milestone by reaching 100 percent railway electrification. This is good for the environment because electric trains are cleaner than older ones. The government has also built many flyovers and underpasses to make travel safer and reduce traffic at railway crossings. All these changes show that the government is very serious about making Gujarat a leader in modern transportation. With more money and better technology, the future of train travel in Gujarat looks very bright for everyone.
The Indian government has allocated a record ₹17,366 crore for railway development in Gujarat for 2026–27. The investment will support major infrastructure upgrades, including the modernization of 87 stations under the Amrit Station Scheme and progress on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. The state has also achieved 100% railway electrification, marking a significant step toward faster, safer, and more modern rail transport.
