This is a Trailer: Explosive Blast on Punjab Railway Track Sparks High Alert.

SIRHIND, PUNJAB — A quiet Friday night turned into a scene of chaos and fear when a powerful explosion ripped through a railway track near Sirhind. The blast, which happened just days before Republic Day, has left authorities on high alert after an extremist group claimed the attack was just a “trailer” of things to come.

The incident took place at 9:50 PM on January 23, 2026, near Khanpur village. A freight train was moving along the newly built Dedicated Freight Corridor—a special track used only for cargo—when a sudden explosion went off under the engine.

A Narrow Escape for the Pilot

The force of the blast was strong enough to shatter the thick glass of the train’s engine and damage the tracks. The locomotive pilot, identified as Anil Sharma, was lucky to survive. He sustained a cut on his cheek from flying glass but managed to keep his composure.Villagers living nearby said the sound was “deafening” and could be heard for kilometers. “We thought it was a massive truck crash or a building falling down,” one local resident shared. “When we realized it was on the tracks, everyone panicked.”

The “Trailer” Warning

What makes this incident even more chilling is a message that surfaced on social media shortly after. A banned extremist group, the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), claimed they were behind the blast as cited in Hindustan Times. In their message, they described the explosion as a “trailer”—suggesting it was a small preview of a larger plan. They even claimed they could have targeted a passenger train full of people but chose a cargo train this time as a warning. While police are still checking if this message is real or just a scare tactic, they are taking the threat very seriously.

12 Hours of Intense Investigation

The Punjab Police and railway security teams didn’t waste a second. Within 12 hours, forensic experts were at the scene, picking up pieces of wires and fragments from the bomb. They are trying to figure out what kind of explosives were used.

Because it was so close to Republic Day (January 26), the entire state has been put on “Red Alert.” Over 6,000 extra police officers have been deployed to guard railway stations, bus stands, and government buildings. In places like Amritsar, Chandigarh, and even neighboring states like Haryana, security teams are using sniffer dogs and metal detectors to check every bag and every corner of the stations.

Why the Freight Corridor?

The explosion happened on a section of the track that is vital for moving goods between Delhi and Amritsar. By targeting this “dedicated corridor,” the attackers managed to disrupt the flow of supplies without initially causing a high number of casualties—a move experts say was likely designed to spread fear without turning the public entirely against them.

For now, the tracks have been repaired, and trains are moving again. But for the people of Sirhind and the commuters of Punjab, the “trailer” warning has left a lingering shadow of worry. The police have asked everyone to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious by calling the 112 helpline.
