Traveling through Prayagraj is about to get much easier. The North Central Railway (NCR) has created a big plan to turn Subedarganj Railway Station into a major hub. This move is being made to solve a long-standing problem: the heavy rush and crowding at the main Prayagraj Junction.
Why is this happening?
Prayagraj Junction is one of the busiest railway stations in North India. It sits on the main route between Delhi and Howrah (Kolkata). Because so many people travel through this station, it is often very crowded. Passengers face long walks, packed platforms, and heavy traffic outside the station. To fix this, officials want to use Subedarganj as a “satellite station.” This means it will act as a helping hand to the main junction, taking away some of the passenger load and making travel smoother for everyone.
The Big Change: More Train Halts
The North Central Railway has sent a proposal to the Railway Board. They want more than 24 important trains to stop at Subedarganj for at least two minutes. If this plan is approved, many famous trains that people use every day will now have a scheduled stop here. Some of these trains include:
- Prayagraj Express (a favorite for Delhi travelers)
- Shivganga Express
- Purushottam Express
- Brahmaputra Mail
- Netaji Express
- Purva Express
While fast trains like the Vande Bharat and Rajdhani are not on the list yet, having these other 24 trains stop at Subedarganj will be a huge relief for thousands of daily passengers.

Better Facilities for Passengers
It isn’t just about stopping more trains; the station itself is getting a massive makeover. Currently, Subedarganj has six platforms. The railway department wants to build two more, bringing the total to eight. More platforms mean the station can handle more trains at the same time without delays. A new building on the Rajrooppur side is almost ready. This side of the station will help people living in western Prayagraj enter the station easily without going through the city’s main traffic. The upgraded station will have new ticket booking offices, inquiry counters, and clean waiting rooms. The circulating area (the space outside the station) is also being improved so that cars and rickshaws can move easily.
How does this help you?
People living in Prayagraj or are visiting the city, this news is great for several reasons: With 24 trains stopping at Subedarganj, many people will choose to get off there instead of at the main Prayagraj Junction. This means fewer people on the platforms and shorter lines at the exit. For people living in areas like Rajrooppur, Kalindipuram, or near the Air Force base, Subedarganj is much closer. They won’t have to travel through the congested city center to catch a train. Because the station is being modernized, things like booking tickets or finding your platform will become faster and less stressful.
The transformation of Subedarganj is a smart step by the Indian Railways. By turning it into a major hub, they are not just building a station; they are improving the lives of travelers. Once the Railway Board gives the final “green signal,” Prayagraj will have two world-class stations working together to make your journey better.
The next time you plan a trip to or from Prayagraj, you might find yourself starting your journey at the new and improved Subedarganj hub!
North Central Railway plans to develop Subedarganj as a major satellite hub to ease congestion at Prayagraj Junction. Over 24 key trains may soon halt here, while the station will expand from six to eight platforms with upgraded passenger amenities and improved access roads. The move aims to reduce crowding, improve connectivity for western Prayagraj residents, and streamline travel in the region.
