South Central Railway Launches New App for Easy Rail Parcel Delivery

The South Central Railway, also known as SCR, has taken a big step to make parcel services easier for everyone. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, they launched a brand new mobile application called the Next Generation Rail Parcel App. This special event took place at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad. The main goal of this app is to help people send and receive parcels without any stress. In the past, sending a parcel through the railway meant standing in long lines and filling out many paper forms. Now, the railway department wants to change that by using modern technology.

The General Manager of South Central Railway, Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, spoke at the launch ceremony. He said that the parcel business is a very old part of the Indian Railways, but now it is entering a new digital age. He explained that booking a parcel should be as simple as booking a taxi on a smartphone. With this new app, the parcel office is now in the pockets of the customers. This means you do not have to travel all the way to the railway station just to book a courier. You can do everything from your home using your phone.

One of the best things about this app is the doorstep pickup and delivery service. This means a delivery person will come to your house to pick up the parcel and deliver it directly to the receiver’s address. The app manages the whole journey of the parcel. It looks after the first part where the parcel is picked up, the middle part where it travels on the train, and the final part where it is delivered. This makes the whole process very fast and reliable for everyone involved.

Another helpful feature is real-time tracking. Customers can see exactly where their parcel is at any time. The app sends automatic updates to the customer’s mobile phone at every stage. For example, you will get a message when your parcel is picked up, when it starts its train journey, and when it is out for delivery. This gives people peace of mind because they always know their items are safe. The app also shows different service providers, their charges, and their ratings. This helps customers choose the best and most affordable option for their needs.

Paying for the service is also very easy and safe. The app supports many digital payment methods like UPI, debit cards, credit cards, and online banking. This means you do not need to worry about carrying cash or looking for change. Currently, the service is being started as a pilot project in seven major cities. These cities are Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The railway plans to expand this service to more cities across India after seeing how people use it.

During the same event, South Central Railway also signed an important agreement with the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore. They will work together to study the market and find ways to carry more freight and goods through trains. This is part of a bigger plan called Mission 3000 Million Tonnes, which aims to increase the amount of cargo the Indian Railways carries by the year 2030. By using new technology like this parcel app and working with experts, the Indian Railways hopes to become more modern and helpful for all citizens.

South Central Railway has launched the Next Generation Rail Parcel App to simplify parcel booking with doorstep pickup, delivery, real-time tracking, and digital payments. Introduced as a pilot in seven cities, the app modernizes railway parcel services and supports Mission 3000 Million Tonnes. The initiative marks a major step toward digitizing and strengthening India’s rail freight ecosystem.
