East Coast Railway Becomes Number One in Moving Goods in India Again

The East Coast Railway has shared some very happy and proud news. This railway zone is a very important part of the Indian Railways network. Once again, it has become the top zone in the whole country for moving heavy goods from one place to another. This process of moving goods is called freight loading. The East Coast Railway has kept its top spot by breaking all its old records. They have shown that they work very hard and do a great job in managing trains. This big success brings a lot of joy to the thousands of people working in this railway zone.

In the financial year of two thousand twenty five and twenty six, the East Coast Railway carried a huge amount of materials. The total weight of the goods they moved was over two hundred eighty six million tonnes. This is the highest amount they have ever carried in their entire history. In the year before that, they moved around two hundred fifty nine million tonnes. This means they increased their work by twenty seven million tonnes in just one single year. This shows how fast they are growing and improving. It is also interesting to note that this is the seventh year in a row that they have moved more than two hundred million tonnes of goods. Out of all the goods moved by all trains in India, this single zone handles a very large part of it.

Because they transported so many things, the East Coast Railway also earned a lot of money. When trains carry goods for businesses, the businesses pay a fee to the railway. In the recent year, this railway zone earned more than twenty nine thousand crore rupees just from moving goods. This is much more than the twenty six thousand crore rupees they earned the year before. Their freight earnings grew by over ten percent. This strong financial growth shows that the railway is doing very good and healthy business. Earning more money helps the government build better railway stations and stronger tracks for the future.

You might wonder what kind of heavy goods these big trains carry every day. The East Coast Railway mostly carries very important materials that the country needs to build houses, big factories, and smooth roads. They carry massive amounts of coal, iron ore, steel, and cement. They also move important farming items like fertilizers, as well as food grains for people to eat. Moving these heavy items quickly is very important for power plants and big industries. For example, if the trains do not move coal on time, power plants cannot make electricity for our homes. So, this railway zone plays a major role in keeping the country running smoothly.

Besides carrying goods, the East Coast Railway is also very good at carrying people. They have shared good news about their passenger trains as well. Last year, more than ninety seven million people traveled safely on their trains. Because more people chose to travel with them, they earned over two thousand four hundred crore rupees from ticket sales. More people are choosing to travel by train because the stations are much cleaner and the trains are running on time. The railway has also added many safety features to make sure everyone travels without any worry. Providing a comfortable journey is a big reason why people trust these trains.

This huge success did not happen by magic. It happened because all the different workers and departments of the railway worked together like a very strong team. The officers managed the train wagons perfectly so that no time was wasted. They made the loading areas bigger and better so work could happen faster. They used modern signals and fixed the railway tracks to make them safer. The managers also talked to the business companies to understand exactly what they needed. By focusing on safety and speed, the East Coast Railway did its job perfectly. They promise to keep working hard and bring even more success to Indian Railways in the coming years.

East Coast Railway has retained its top position in freight loading across India, transporting over 286 million tonnes in FY 2025–26. The zone also recorded strong revenue growth, earning more than ₹29,000 crore from freight operations. This achievement highlights its critical role in moving essential commodities and supporting industrial growth across the country.
