A very important railway project in Punjab is facing a major problem because of delayed paperwork. The central government of India has noticed that the local officials in Punjab are moving very slowly with land paperwork. This slow work has stopped the progress of the Mohali-Rajpura train line. This special broad-gauge railway project is eighteen kilometers long. What is very surprising is that this project has only existed on paper for the last fifty years. Now that the government finally wants to build it, the local offices are causing an unexpected delay.
The central government is fully paying for this big project. The total cost is about four hundred and forty-three crore rupees. Usually, the state government buys the land using its own money. However, for this specific project, the central government has promised to pay for both the construction and the land. All the Punjab state government needs to do is complete the official paperwork so the builders can start working. Unfortunately, the required documents from three local offices have been missing for several months.

The Northern Railway department recently wrote a serious letter to the top officials of the Punjab government. In this letter, the railway engineers explained that they have been trying very hard to get the signed land papers. They need a special document called the twenty-A schedule. This document is very important because it legally records exactly which land will be used for the train tracks. The local Sub-Divisional Magistrates from Fatehgarh Sahib, Banur, and Bassi Pathana have not signed and returned these important papers. Without these signatures, the railway builders cannot touch the land to start the work.
Because of this serious complaint, the senior officials in Punjab have finally taken quick action. A top state officer wrote an urgent message to the district leaders of Fatehgarh Sahib and Mohali. He told them to personally look into this problem right away. The district leaders have been given a strict limit of one week to finish all the pending work. They must also send a report to prove that the work is truly done.
The central government ministers are very disappointed with this unnecessary delay. The Union Railways Minister explained that the Prime Minister has done something very rare by offering to pay for the land as well. He said that if the state cannot finish simple paperwork when they do not even have to spend their own money, it shows a lack of seriousness. Another Union Minister also called this project a special gift to Punjab. He requested all the local officers to finish the paperwork quickly so the people of Punjab do not suffer anymore.
When this railway line is finally built, it will be a huge help to many people. It will directly connect the Malwa region to the city of Chandigarh for the very first time. Right now, trains have to take a very long detour through another city called Ambala. The new straight path will save a lot of time and money for daily travellers, students, and farmers who need to transport their goods. The project will also remove heavy traffic from the busy road highway between Chandigarh and Patiala. If the local offices finish the paperwork soon, the engineers expect to complete the entire railway line in two or three years. Everyone is hoping that the local officials will follow the one-week order so the construction can finally begin.
The Mohali–Rajpura railway line in Punjab has been delayed due to slow land paperwork by local officials, despite full funding from the central government. Missing key documents like the 20-A schedule have stalled construction for months. Authorities have now issued a one-week deadline to complete formalities. Once built, the project will improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and ease road congestion in the region.
