If you live in Bihar or are planning a trip through the state this May, you need to pay close attention to the latest news from Indian Railways. There is a massive project happening that will change how trains run for nearly the whole month. The railway authorities have announced that twenty-eight different trains will be affected between May 4 and May 27. This is happening because workers need to complete very important technical upgrades at stations like Gaya and Jaunpur. While this work will help trains run better in the future, it means many travelers will face changes to their plans right now.
One of the biggest reasons for these changes is the work at Gaya station. The engineers are removing an old part of the track called a CC apron on line number one. Because of this, the special trains that run between Patna and Gaya will be completely cancelled from May 4 until May 16. If you usually take these trains to get to work or visit family, you will need to find another way to travel, such as taking a bus or a private car. This is a very busy route, so many people will feel the impact of this closure.

In addition to the cancellations, many famous long-distance trains are taking different paths. The railway yard at Jaunpur station is being remodeled, which is a big job. Because of this, sixteen trains will be diverted. This includes the high-speed Patna-Gomtinagar Vande Bharat Express. From May 4 to May 27, this train will not stop at the Ayodhya Dham station. Instead, it will take a different route through Zafrabad and Sultanpur. Other trains like the Kota-Patna Express and the Indore-Patna Express will also skip some of their usual stops. This means if you were planning to get on or off the train at places like Akbarpur or Jaunpur, you must check the new schedule immediately.
Some trains are also being “short-terminated,” which means they will end their journey early and not reach their final destination. For example, some trains that usually go all the way to Patna might stop at a station nearby instead. This is to help manage the traffic while the tracks are being fixed. Even the popular Ganga Damodar Express will have to follow a different path between Dhanbad and Patna for almost two weeks.
The railway officials understand that these changes are difficult for passengers, especially during the hot summer month of May. They are asking everyone to stay patient. The work they are doing is called “Non-Interlocking” work. This is a technical term that means they are fixing the system that tells trains which track to use and when to stop. Fixing this system makes the railway much safer and helps prevent accidents. By doing this work now, the trains will be able to move faster and stay on time more often in the future.
Before you leave your house to catch a train, it is very important to use your mobile phone or a computer to check the status of your journey. You can use the official railway website or apps like “Where is my Train” to see if your train is cancelled, late, or going a different way. If your train is cancelled, you can get a full refund for your ticket. It is much better to check the news now than to arrive at the station and find out your train is not coming. Stay safe and plan your travel carefully this May.
Indian Railways has announced major disruptions in Bihar from May 4 to May 27 due to critical non-interlocking and infrastructure upgrades at Gaya and Jaunpur stations. Around 28 trains will be cancelled, diverted, or short-terminated, including changes to Vande Bharat Express routes. While the maintenance aims to improve safety and efficiency, passengers are advised to check train status in advance and plan alternative travel.
