Indian Railways to Start New High-Quality Cleaning for General Train Coaches

Travelling in a general coach of an Indian train is often a very busy and crowded experience. Because so many people use these coaches, they can sometimes get dirty very quickly. To help all passengers have a better trip, the Indian Railways has announced a very big change. The Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently shared that the government will now focus on keeping general coaches as clean as the expensive first-class coaches. This is part of a new plan to make sure every passenger, no matter what ticket they buy, can travel in a clean and healthy environment.

For a long time, deep cleaning was mostly done for the reserved compartments where people book their seats in advance. The general coaches, which are used by millions of people every day, did not always get the same level of attention during the journey. With this new reform, that is going to change completely. The Railway Minister said that for the first time in history, general coaches are being fully included in the regular cleaning system. This means that whether you are in a luxury seat or a general seat, the toilets and floors should look just as clean.

The old way of cleaning trains was called the Clean Train Station model. In that system, the cleaning teams would wait at big stations and jump on the train to clean everything very fast before the train started moving again. The new plan is much better because it uses a continuous cleaning model. This means that a special cleaning team will stay on the train from the very beginning of the trip until the very end. These workers will clean the toilets, empty the garbage bins, and wipe the floors every one to two hours. Because they are on the train the whole time, they can fix problems as soon as they happen.

This new cleaning project will start with eighty long-distance trains. These trains were chosen because they travel very far and carry many passengers. The government wants to see how well the plan works on these eighty trains first. Over the next three years, they plan to expand this high-quality cleaning to every single train in India. This is a very large task, but the railway department is using new technology to make sure it works. They are even creating special war rooms where managers can use artificial intelligence and photos to check if the coaches are actually being cleaned properly.

Besides cleaning, the special onboard teams will also help with small repairs. If a light is not working or a water tap is broken, these workers can try to fix it right away during the journey. They will also make sure that there is always enough water in the toilets and basins. Another important change is how the railway handles blankets and bedsheets, which are called linen. Instead of many different small companies doing the work, one single professional agency will now handle everything. This will make it much easier to ensure that the sheets are always fresh and clean for the passengers.

The Indian Railways is working hard to modernize everything. They are building new tracks and faster trains, but they also know that cleanliness is one of the most important things for travellers. By bringing first-class cleaning standards to the general coaches, the government is showing that every passenger is important. This new step will make long-distance travel much more comfortable for families and workers who use the general coaches.
