New Rail Project Approved to Double Track Between Palakkad and Podanur

The Central Government has recently given its approval for a very important railway survey. This survey is the first big step toward doubling the railway line that connects Palakkad, Pollachi, and Podanur. For many years, people in this region have been asking for better train services. This new project is great news because it will help make travel faster and more comfortable for thousands of passengers every day.

The Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, confirmed this approval in a letter. The survey is called the Final Location Survey. This means experts will go to the ground to plan exactly where the new second track will be built. They will look at the route starting from Palakkad and going through Kollengode, Anaimalai Road, Pollachi, and Kinathukadavu before reaching Podanur. This route is very busy and links major cities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

One of the main reasons for this project is to reduce the pressure on the existing railway tracks. Right now, many trains connecting cities like Chennai, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirunelveli use these tracks. Because there is only one track in some places, trains have to wait for others to pass. This causes delays. By adding a second track, the railway department can run more trains at the same time. This will help passengers reach their homes or workplaces much faster than before.

Another very important benefit of this new route is safety for animals. The current main line between Palakkad and Coimbatore passes through deep forests and hills. In these areas, wild animals like elephants often cross the tracks. Sadly, there have been many accidents where elephants were hit by speeding trains. The proposed new doubled line via Pollachi will avoid most of these forest areas. This means trains can travel at high speeds safely without hurting wildlife. It also means there will be fewer speed limits, which are currently necessary to protect animals in the forest zones.

The project is also expected to help the local economy. When there are two tracks, the railway can move more goods and freight. This is very helpful for farmers and business owners in the region who need to send their products to different cities. More trains also mean more people visiting these towns, which can help local shops and markets grow.

Local passenger groups are very happy with this announcement. They believe that this project will lead to better stations too. For example, some smaller stations like Anaimalai Road might be upgraded to handle more trains. There is also hope that new stations could be built in places like Kovilpalayam to serve more villagers.

The survey is expected to take about five to six months to finish. After the survey is done, the government will decide on the budget and give the final order to start the construction. Experts believe that once the actual work begins, it could be completed in about two years. This project is a big step forward in making the railway network in South India modern, fast, and safe for everyone.

Indian Railways has approved a Final Location Survey for doubling the rail line between Palakkad and Podanur via Pollachi. The project aims to ease congestion on the busy route, allow more trains to operate, and reduce delays. The proposed alignment will also avoid forest areas, improving safety for wildlife and enabling faster train operations.
